Wings of Fire
Wood Burned Design by matches and hand on poplar wood with ink.
Experimenting is the core of what I do in my art. I love to try new techniques and this pieces is an illustration of my experimentation.
I used matches and lined the match heads up small sections and lit them. The tiny but fierce explosions created wonderfully burnt bursts on the wood. They are perfect for creating a whimsical look to an object, just like the wings of the macaw in this piece.
Once I had the wings finished I burned the face by hand using my wood burning pen. And then I added a touch of color to bring this image to life.
